Established in 1986, Shaw Vineyard
earned a reputation for producing some of the finest Vinifera grapes in the New York State Finger Lakes Wine Region. Our farm on the east side of Keuka Lake, north of Hammondsport, proved to be an idea location for the cultivation of Chardonnay, Merlot, and Riesling. A second vineyard just south of the village of Penn Yan produced Catawba, Niagara and other lubrusca varieties. In 1996, vineyards on the west side of Seneca Lake were acquired. The Seneca site, with its tempered climate, proved to be a perfect location for Riesling, Cab Franc, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Our prime vineyard sites combined with a philosophy of “quality over quantity” further established Shaw Vineyards as the region’s top source for wine grapes. From 1986 to 1998 our vineyards supplied both large commercial concerns such as the Canandaigua Wine Company, as well as smaller boutique farm wineries, most notably Dr. Frank, Hermann Wiemer, and Ravines. In 1999 the lubrusca farm in Penn Yan was sold and plans to build a production facility were initiated. The Seneca location was deemed to be the ideal location and construction on our unique timber framed winery and press building began in 2004. Owner Steve Shaw, with the help of his friend, Morten Hallgren, created a line of quality hand crafted vinifera wines. Their combined efforts proved successful – the first vintage, received gold medals for both Pinot Noir & Cabernet Sauvignon. The tasting room opened to the public in the spring of 2007. We are easy to find: 3901 State Route 14, 15 miles North of Watkins Glen, 21 miles south of Geneva. ( .3 mile North of Hermann Wiemer Vineyard). |
